The Pick Set-Week 8

Not going to lie, I'm much more concerned with finally stumping Ryan on one of these pics. So I will reach into the far corners of my brain for this weeks. Anyway, here are the picks!

Dolphins 24 @ 17 Bengals    ...Something is just off with the Bengals.

Jaguars 16 @ 28 Cowboys  ...Jon Kitna leads ressurgence!! Nah, Jags just suck.

Redskins 20 @ 31 Lions  ...Lions are becoming a fun team to watch.

Bills 17 @ 37 Chiefs   ...Chiefs are starting to believe in themselves.

Panthers 10 @ 17 Rams   ...The other show-me state team handles the kitties.

Packers 26 @ 20 Jets   ...Upset! Pack are riding high after beating Minny.

Broncos 13 @ 17 49ers (in London)   ...Poor London, they get this awful matchup.

Titans 20 @ 23 Chargers   ...Could go either way, Bolts do just enough to win; they need it more.

Seahawks 10 @ 21 Raiders  ...An AFC West race between the chiefs and raiders? Tell 2002 it can have it's story back

Vikings 19 @ 27 Patriots   ...Favre or no Favre, Pats will win, but Moss will score.

Buccaneers 13 @ 29 Cardinals   ...Best team in NFC Raheem? Lol, maybe 3rd best in your division.

Steelers 13 @ 20 Saints   ...Another desperate team. Saints defense makes plays to win it.

Texans 31 @ 24 Colts  ...Upset! Colts missing too much. Bound to crack eventually. Why not Houston?

Last Week: 8-6
Season: 60-44

The picture is a former NFL running back and was a first round pick. That's all you're getting. Not even going to tell you the year, enjoy and you better lose Ryan.

Polls

This has been ready to go for a few days, I swear we had Nc State over FSU since tuesday. Here it goes...

1. Oregon
-Trojans have nothing to lose, this is their Super Bowl--Oregon has everything to lose. Should be great.
Next: @ USC

2. TCU
-TCU dismantled a tough Air Force team. Stifling defense and an efficient offense--they sound like 'Bama.
Next: @ UNLV

3. Auburn
-Auburn won the battle of tigers. This is one of two challenges left on the schedule. This should be a toughy, but if they survive all they have left is @ Bama.
Next: @ Ole Miss

4. Alabama
-Speaking of 'Bama, they looked like a machine dismantling Tennessee. Tide might be able to sneak back into the race. Who do you take, 1 loss Bama or undefeated Boise/TCU?
Next: Idle

5. Boise State
-Read every week's description of Boise.
Next: vs.La Tech Tues Night

6. Michigan State
-The Spartans lucked out--no Ohio State on the schedule. So really this one and Penn State is all they have left or they will at the very least be smelling roses.
Next: @ Iowa 3:30 ABC/ESPN

7. Wisconsin
-A gutsy, tough road win @ Iowa proves the win over Ohio State was no fluke. Their power offense will be difficult for anyone to slow down.
Next: Idle

8. Missouri
-By beating Oklahoma they proved they are top 10 worthy. A win @ Nebraska would make them the Big 12 favorite and maybe a title contender? It will be tough, expect a letdown this week.
Next: @ Nebraska 3:30 ABC/ESPN

9. Ohio State
-No clue how this game is in primetime. Buckeyes should smash the Gophers.
Next: @ Minnesota 8:00 ABC/ESPN

10. LSU
-Somehow Les Miles will make it close against Idle this week...

Redemption

Welllll, I stand corrected in both LCS'. But I'm making a bold prediction that will give me back some credibility. The Rangers will sweep. Their team is all in all much stronger than I assumed. Everyone knows what assuming does, and I was a big ass in the last series. But on an obvious note the Rangers offense is much stronger than the Giants. It's what they were built upon over the past decade. They've been known to slug people out but they've never had the staff to do it.

Cliff Lee squares off against The Freak in game one and I can't see Lee cooling down in the slightest bit. The rest of the rotation has the Giants beat with their run support. If the Giants are held to 4 runs or fewer, Texas is almost guaranteed a win. Big bat to look for in this series is Ian Kinsler. If he shows up with his bat, Texas will roll big time. On the other hand, I think Buster Posey was a big factor in the last series. He has alot of big at bats under his belt now, and he needs to carry the Giants a little as a rookie. There isn't much pop in their line-up, but they seem to spark up when he gets goin.

Money's not the Answer

I was bending towards the Yankees winning the ship this year big time, because their lineup was back and better than ever. Along with their pitching. Top to bottom on paper, they were the best team cash could buy. It goes to show you money won't always win you championships. Their championship last year was still boring as hell, but seeing them lose just felt unreal. Nothing like seeing people who completely expect to win it all choke on themselves. Money buys a great line-up, but it won't buy heart and character. The only grinder on that team is Gardner. Hes gotta be traded because he just doesn't belong in New York. Too much purity him him, and too much character.

As much as Major League Baseball wanted and needed the Yanks to win, this is what baseball is all about. I hope the viewers lost in the World Series will come around and realize whats on the line for this Rangers team, and it's impossible to not root for them. Everyone knows the Hamilton story along with Young being there for 200 years, but you can't look past what the team is doing for Texas. They've never seen a World Series. It isn't 86 years but it's long enough.

Now look onto Oswalt and Sanchez squaring off tonight. Another unreal game happening. I'm still taking the Phills in this series, and I know I can be proven wrong like I was with Texas but if the fightin Phils can pull it off tonight there's no way game seven is going to be lost. Pushing a game seven with Philly being hot into the ship backs my champions still. They're still not impressive but when they bust out of their mini slump look out. All in all, baseball at its best in both LCS's.

Semana Siete

The Spanish thing worked pretty good last week. Let's hope we don't take a hit to the head via Brandon Meriweather on our picks this time...

Bengals 17 @ 24 Falcons    ....Expect a good bounceback for the Falcons.

Redskins 23 @ 24 Bears    ...If the Bears can keep Cutler upright, they'll be alright.

Eagles 16 @ 21 Titans      ....Titans got a good thing going, tough defense.

Jaguars 16 @ 27 Chiefs    ....Travel across country following Monday Nighter is never easy.

Steelers 30 @ 20 Dolphins   ....Best team in the NFL (Pitt), Dolphins 0-2 at home so far.

Browns 14 @ 29 Saints     ...Saints take advantage of another weak opponent.

Rams 17 @ 14 Buccaneers    ...Might want to start believing in the Rams.

49ers 25 @ 14 Panthers       ...Niners got first win of season, winning begets winning.

Bills 10 @ 27 Ravens         ....Poor Bills, they may not win a game.

Cardinals 9 @ 28 Seahawks    ....Max Hall's first NFL road start.

Raiders 20 @ 17 Broncos     ....Just a weird feeling, I know these Broncos pretty well.

Patriots 17 @ 34 Chahgahs    ....Chargers at home (-17) vs. Chargers on Road

Vikings 31 @ 24 Cheese Heads    ...Vikings are starting to come together--look out.

Giants 24 @ 20 Cowboys         ....Losing is contagious, 'Boys fall again.

Last Week: 9-5

Season: 52-38

Rkill got it again last week. I'm fairly certain we are going to get him this week. I'll keep going more and more random til only I would know. This guy is a former running back for both the Miami Dolphins and Carolina Panthers. Played with Jay Fiedler in Miami. Good luck.

Roy Halladay Deals Tonight, Phillies in Seven

I don't know whats happening with this series. To be honest, Im confused by both series and I could definatly see the Rangers taking it down, even though I still don't believe it. Anyway the Giants are playing completely out of their behinds right now. Their pitching is doin the job as expected but the lineup is playing out of their shoes. Buster Posey finally heat up after being ice cold and it seems its been coming together. But its more of the Phillies playing C baseball and the Giants are playing their A game.

Big matchup tonight on the hill, and I don't see Halladay losing this game. Even on the road, hes too good of a competitor to give this game up. Theres no stats behind my explanation, or any credability to what I'm writing down. Actually, Im kind of a idiot. But im not as fat as Pablo Sandoval trying to pick up ground balls. I can tell you that. And the Phillies are taking down the Giants in seven. And as much as I dont want to say, there will be a game seven in Texas. And anything can happen.

NFL's Elite Eight

Here are my thoughts on who the top 8 teams in the NFL are (regardless of record).

1. Pittsburgh Steelers (4-1)
-The Steelers weathered the storm without Big Ben (going 3-1). Now with a fully loaded defense and offense they are the clear front-runners for the Super Bowl.

2. New York Jets (5-1)
-If there is a team that can match (or pass) Pittsburgh defensively it's the Jets. It doesn't hurt that they are undefeated in the division and are winning games the typical Jets don't win.

3. Baltimore Ravens (4-2)
-I know they lost to the Patriots last week but you're all forgetting one important thing...Ed Reed. He will either return this week or next and will be the key cog to complete the Ravens defense (which is struggling by their standards).

4. New Orleans Saints (4-2)
-It hasn't always been pretty, but the Saints are finding ways to win. Despite some head-scratching performances by the offense (mostly do to Thomas and Bush injuries) the Saints are in good shape. When they return the offense could be dynamic again.

5. New England Patriots (4-1)
-No Moss, no problem? We wouldn't quite say that yet. There has been no proof that Moss was a cancer and theres no person with a straight face that can say Deion Branch > Randy Moss. Defensive Coordinators are rejoicing, and speaking of defense, it seems that the Pats are making due again.

6. Atlanta Falcons (4-2)
-Matty Ice has led a consistent Dirty Bird attack, but the reason for the turnaround for the Falcons? Their defense. Never in their history have they had 3 straight winning seasons but Mike Smith has them goin' down that road this year.

7. Indianapolis Colts (4-2)
-Another year, another Peyton Manning record pursuit. He is currently on pace to break Dan Marino's single-season passing yards record. The one time the Colts won the Super Bowl during the Manning Era was when they had a tough defense and ran the ball well. Neither are a strength of this team. But they're still scary.

8. Minnesota Vikings (2-3)
-Yep, a 2-3 team. The Vikings has as much if not more talent than anyone on this list. The addition of Randy Moss will be a HUGE gain. Eventually the Vikings will probably climb much higher on this list with Sidney Rice coming back and Favre having better rapport with his receivers than Jenn Sterger (I had to).

Awards as of today:
NFL MVP- Peyton Manning Indianapolis

Coach of the Year- Todd Haley Kansas City

Coaches on the hot seat
Chan Gailey (Buffalo), Eric Mangini (Cleveland), Norv Turner (San Diego), Wade Phillips (Dallas), John Fox (Carolina), Mike Singletary (San Francisco)

Warning Sirens

After much bally-hooed excitement for the 2010 Miami Hurricanes football season that looked to be all of a category 5, now looks more like a category 2 storm.

Now experienced and "mature" the 'Canes were set to take the next step in Randy Shannon's tenure with their minds set on the ACC title and maybe more. Losing to Ohio State 36-24 in Columbus wasn't a complete shock and Hurricane fans could take solace in the face that they looked like they belonged on the same field as the now Associated Press #1 team in the nation; in their house. However, this Saturday it all came crashing down...

A primetime game against the hated Florida State Seminoles on national television in fron of the first ever sellout crowd since Miami has moved into Sun Life Stadium three seasons ago. The Seminoles shared the same record as the 'Canes but looked completely inept and lost in losing to Oklahoma by 30 in Norman just three weeks earlier. It was supposed to be a statement win for the Hurricanes, and it ended up a scarring loss.

The Seminoles jumped out to a 21-0 lead physically dominating the Hurricanes on both sides of the ball. Missed tackles. Blown assignments. Outwilled. Surely Jerome Brown and Sean Taylor were rolling over in their graves at this disgrace of a performance.  It left Randy Shannon dazed and confused and Jacory Harris grabbing his nuts...no really....

Jacory was grabbing in that area because he proved that he had no nuts. The team built on swagger and us against the world mentality has turned into a team with no heart, no "swag", and no pride. How else do you explain letting your hated in-state rival drill you 45-17 in your house?

Randy Shannon has done a nice job replenishing the talent at Miami and keeping the players out of trouble, and by all accounts he's a good guy who is a father figure to his players. However, at the University of Miami where we not only beat you, but we tell you to your face how bad we are beating you and celebrate it the choir boy mentality must end. The true character of this team showed again, punched in the mouth and instead of fighting back they took it laying down. Had the 'Canes of old been pushed around like this you know what they would have done? Fought back. Either during the game or after the play. They would fight you. That mentality is long gone and it goes back to the head coach.

You can say that it is just a bad game, but at least once, if not multiple times during each of Shannon's seasons there are losses resembling the one we saw Saturday Night.

In a 5-7 opening campaign Randy closed out the last game ever in the historic Orange Bowl with a 48-0 ass kicking by Virginia. VIRGINIA!!! The next season there was the thrashing on Thursday Night by the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets where they ran for almost 500 yards against the 'Canes, again outmanning Miami in the trenches. Fast forward to last year, they didn't lose to Wake Forest but they were dominated for 3 quarters before making a valient comeback late in the 4th. Then ending the season with a 17-14 loss to Wisconsin which had it not been for 2 Wisconsin redzone turnovers and a missed field goal would have been much, much worse.

At some point one must realize the trend. A team reflects the attitude of it's head coach. Randy "Blandy" Shannon stands on the sideline with his arms folded having no idea what to do. Jimmy Johnson's players feared losing because they knew what a Monday after a loss would be like under Jimmy--hell. The time for change has come, it's been four years and when Miami gets physically dominated and looks disinterested again, take a look at the coach...and you will see the same confused, nonchalant look that is seen every single week from the man that with Coker, took all of the heart and passion out of Miami football.

Hurr durrrrrr

Blow it up and start over.

Week Five Forecast

We need a bounceback week, it's gotten progressively worse...cmon! Raise your hand if you had the Chiefs as the last undefeated team in the league. Yeah, shut up put your hands down.

Jaguars 21 @ 26 Bills   ...Classic letdown after a big win...one-time Bills.

Broncos 13 @ 24 Ravens   ...Denver hasn't won in Baltimore since the Colts were there.

Giants 21 @ 31 Texans     ...Texans look to have righted the ship and Cushing is back.

Chiefs 16 @ 30 Colts       ...Chiefs give it a fight, but too many weapons.

Packers 20 @ 26 Redskins    ...Packers are really banged up, Redskins feelin' it.

Rams 17 @ 28 Lions    ...No way the Rams can win three straight...right?

Bears 13 @ 17 Panthers    ...Battle of Collins-Clausen (ew), Panthers ride the backfield to a win.

Buccaneers 10 @ 17 Bengals    ...Bengals will win, but as usual--it won't be pretty.

Falcons 23 @ 14 Browns     ...Browns blew their element of surprise last week.

Saints 27 @ 9 Cardinals    ...Welcome to the NFL Max Hall, your first start...vs. the defending champs.

Titans 17 @ 34 Cowboys   ...Cowboys should be fresh off a bye, CJ2K has turned into CJ 3.4 yrd/carry.

Chargers 31 @ 20 Raidahs    ...Chargers finallyyyy win on the road at the black hole.

Eagles 17 @ 24 49ers         ...Cmon' Niners, I've picked you guys 3 times already...

Vikings 7 @ 16 Jets           ...Revis vs. Moss (again) and Sanchez vs. the man he replaced. Defense rules.

Season:

Last week's pic was of Bubby Brister, former Denver Bronco great. Nice job Rkill. We might have to go a little more difficult this week...The player is a former New England Patriot linebacker, a one-time pro bowler who played his college ball at Virginia. He retired in 2001 as a member of the Carolina Panthers. Good luck.

I know Im late. I know I knowwww. But I had this playoffs picked and ready before and Texas seems like theyre proving me wrong. May I add I want Bobby Cox to win a Championship? Right before he kicks it.

Rays over Rangers in four: not looking good right now, but I still like the Rays. Price in game 5 will get it done.

Yankees take it to the Twins with a sweep: Morneau is too huge of a loss. They were still the underdogs without him but I can't see them winning a game.

Phillies in 4 over the Reds: I can see the Reds givin a good punch at home but shit the Phillies starters are good. I don't know why I'm giving the Reds a game but something tingles in my testicle when I hear Votto.

Braves over the Giants: Derek Lowe will be at the bar after this series and will get Bobby Shaft to the NLDS

Skip to the Showdown:
Phillies over the Yanks in the ship. Its obvious both teams will be there, theyre too good. Phillies starting rotation just bends the Bankees over and Chase combs his hair after a walk off in game seven to bring Philly 2 in 3 years.

Week Four Forecast

It's week four and so far we have been off to a good start here. Still better than most ESPN experts, we aim to reverse the downward trend this week.

Jets 13 @ 16 Bills  ...No one circles the wagons like...

Bengals 23 @ 17 Browns  ...This one almost seems too obvious

Broncos 17@ 28 Titans    ....CJ2K should have a great day

Panthers 16 @ 21 Saints   ...Closer than experts think, Saints survive scare.

Lions 17 @ 41 Packers    ....You won't like Rodgers angry (as his fantasy owner I will)

Seahawks 24 @ 17 Rams   ....Rams got their first home win in 2 yrs last wk--no back-to-back

49ers 20 @ 24 Falcons   ...Desperate 49ers vs. high as the sky falcons, could be an upset.

Ravens 9 @ 20 Steelers   ...Both teams will be black and blue after, but steelers do enough.

Texans 21 @ 27 Raiders   ....This is a traditional Texans loss (says Ryan Killips)

Colts 34 @ 24 Jaguars     ....ESPN should do a commercial where Peyton is the machine.

Redskins 23 @ 20 Eagles   ....Sweet revenge for McNabb--call it justice.

Cardinals 14 @ 37 Chargers    ...Bolts are top 5 in both total offense and defense yet are just 1-2?

Bears 17 @ 20 Giants          ...G-men need a bounceback, always tough to go on road in a short week.

Patriots 28 @ 31 Dolphins    ....Only one team in this stadium can wear orange (the u) so stop it 'fins.

Week: 6-8 (ewwww)        Season: 37-25

It's baaaaaack. Guess who the man in the photo is. He filled in for John Elway (and quite effectively) during the 1999 Super Bowl season, beaten out by Brian Griese the following year for the job. Also played for the Vikings among others...

Last week's answer was Troy Vincent--correctly guessed by Andrew Killips. Congrats you have won...a mention in this post! (high-five)
