Turkey and More

Patriots 27 @ 31 Lions     ...Turkey day upset.

Saints 26 @ 19 Cowboys  ...Saints stuff the Fighting Garretts.

Bengals 14 @ 24 Jets   ...Bengals are probably more interested in pumpkin pie.

Packers 23 @ 30 Falcons  ...Battle of maybe the top two in the NFC.

Steelers 24 @ 16 Bills   ...Could be the first snow bowl of the year.

Panthers 13 @ 21 Browns  ...Hillis could play QB and Browns would still win.

Jaguars 27 @ 24 Giants   ...Upset! Giants lay a stinker at home...

Vikings 25 @ 17 Redskins  ...Another upset, Vikes play inspired for Frazier.

Titans 17 @ 29 Texans  ...Rusty Smith vs. Matt Schaub...hmmm....

Dolphins 12 @ 16 Raiders  ....Defensive struggle, Raiders hold on in the black hole.

Chiefs 24 @ 34 Seahawks   ....Seabirds are tough at home.

Eagles 30 @ 31 Bears  ...Meh, still don't think Bears are for real.

Rams 21 @ 24 Broncos   ...Broncos will do just enough.

Buccaneers 20 @ 27 Ravens  ...One of the best games of the week, Ravens get another test.

Chargers 36 @ 28 Colts  ...It's about that time for the Bolts to catch fire.

49ers 14 @ 23 Cardinals  ...Worst monday nighter ever? Maybe.

New Elite Eight

1. New York Jets (8-2) Previous: 2
-I doubted them, I talked smack, and while I still don't think they are a super bowl team it's hard to argue with the on-the-field results. They just always find a way to win--go ahead say they are vulnerable but they look an awful lot like those old Patriot teams that just kept winning and you couldn't figure out how.

2. New England Patriots (8-2) Previous: 5
-Speaking of the Patriots--they are coming off two of the most impressive wins (@ Pit, vs. Ind). Not convinced this young team can maintain this, especially given the lack of focus and egg laid against Cleveland. But say they do win and get home field--who is really going to go into New England and beat them?

3. Atlanta Falcons (8-2) Previous: 6
-The class of the NFC is the Falcons. Matt Ryan is growing up and Roddy White is officially an elite receiver. The defense has been good enough, but look very vulnerable against the pass. This week's game vs. Green Bay will tell us a lot about the ATL.

4. Baltimore Ravens(7-3) Previous: 3
-Ravens have played the most difficult schedule in the whole league. They still have the Steelers, Saints, and Bucs, among others to go. They sort of remind you of that 2008-09 Steelers team that was hardened by their schedule and was battle-tested for the playoffs. The return of Ed Reed helps.

5. Pittsburgh Steelers (7-3) Previous: 1
-Something is wrong here. I don't know quite what it is but there a championship Steeler team does not let teams come into their house and beat them the way the Patriots did two weeks ago. Either it was a wake-up call or a sign of things to come...I believe it's the latter.

6. Philadelphia Eagles (7-3) Previous: NR
-There is no more trendy pick to win the NFC and MVP than the Eagles and Michael Vick. However, don't be so quick. Yes, they have looked good and the defense is forcing plenty of turnovers but Vick has yet to throw a pick. Are we really to believe that Michael Vick out of prison is suddenly the formula for an amazing ball secure quarterback?

7. New Orleans Saints (7-3) Previous: NR
-That big breath of air you just heard was the entire NFL preparing for the Saints because they appear to be back. The offense clicked big time against Seattle. With Reggie Bush returning they have their runner that requires extra attention back. But that defense still isn't what it was last year, and in the end that was what won it for them.

8. Green Bay Packers (7-3) Previous: NR
-My preseason Super Bowl pick seems to be coming alive, injuries and all. They just seem to trot out the next guy and the next guy and they are still getting the job done. They can win shootouts or go into New York and beat the Jets with a defensive struggle. Rodgers hasn't thrown a pick in 3 straight games and if he stays away from turnovers, then don't expect the Pack to fall off.

MVP (as of today): Peyton Manning QB Indianapolis

Coach of the Year: Todd Haley Kansas City

Def. Player of the Year: Clay Matthews LB Green Bay

Off. Rookie- Mike Williams WR Tampa Bay

Def. Rookie- Ndamukong Suh DT Detroit

Hotseat Rating-

Luke Warm: Josh McDaniels (Denver),  Chan Gailey (Buffalo), Tony Sparano (Miami)

Heating Up: Norv Turner (San Diego), Gary Kubiak (Houston)

Scorching: Marvin Lewis (Cincinnati), John Fox (Carolina),  Mike Singletary (San Francisco)

Semana Once

Week 11 in the NFL...finally all the byes are over. So no more fantasy excuses and no more lack of games during the week (although one could argue the Panthers have been on a bye all year). To the picks...

Bears 26 @ 20 Dolphins   ...Not that I trust Cutler, but I trust Tyler Thigpen less.

Bills 31 @ 27 Bengals   ...Mini-upset, bengals are just garbage.

Lions 21 @ 23 Cowboys   ...Garrett's boys go 2-0.

Redskins 14 @ 29 Titans  ...Welcome back to Tennessee Albert.

Cardinals 16 @ 30 Chiefs  ...Chiefs NEED this win, big game for a young team.

Packers 20 @ 24 Vikings  ...Off a bye, in the dome, I say the Pack are a little rusty.

Texans 20 @ 27 Jets  ...Texans can win, but...they will probably snatch defeat from the jaws of victory again.

Raiders 17 @ 21 Steelers  ...Raiders are better than people think...but not THIS good.

Ravens 28 @ 6 Panthers  ...Don't expect ray-ray to allow a let down in this one.

Browns 27 @ 34 Jaguars  ...Should be a very exciting game, Garrard will do it late again.

Falcons 24 @ 20 Rams   ...This could be a playoff game believe it or not.

Seahawks 24 @ 41 Saints  ...Saints offense finally explodes against a poor Seattle defense.

Buccaneers 16 @ 21 49ers  ...Battle of underachievers vs. overachievers...naturally--go underachievers.

Colts 27 @ 30 Patriots   ...This game again. Every damn year. Hopefully it snows.

Giants 17 @ 37 Vick's Beagles ...Giants look in disarray, Eagles on fire, that being said watch the Giants win

Broncos 20 @ 38 Chargers  ...Don't expect another 49 point outburst by the Broncos this game.

Last week: 8-6
Season:  88-57 (not too shabby)

I guess Ryan didn't get the pic last week, he didn't even guess! That's how far down we've gotten him. Let's loosen it up a little this week...

He's a kicker and was a darn good one. That is all.

The Home Stretch

Just in case you're missing baseball season no need to fear, you can actually catch two games this week at Wrigley Field (Illinois-Northwestern) and Yankee Stadium (Army-Notre Dame). As pictured below, scoring a TD in the east endzone at Wrigley may literally kill you...

Here's the breakdown:

1. Oregon
-Every National Champ has a scare or two during the regular season that refocuses them. Ducks have two tough games vs. Arizona and at Oregon State in the Civil War to determine their fate. Win out and they are in.
Next: Idle

2. TCU
-With Boise State on their heels in the BCS, the Frogs are in serious jeopardy of losing this spot. TCU got pushed by a very underrated San Diego State team, but just have a game at New Mexico next week, and they will finish with their 2nd straight undefeated regular season.
Next: Idle

3. Auburn
-With all of the controversy you wonder if the Tigers can hang on. All the Tigers have left is just, ya know, a trip to Tuscaloosa next week to take on their hated rivals and defending National Champion Crimson Tide and an SEC Title game. Two weeks to prepare should help them out.
Next: Idle

4. Stanford
-Stanford was pushed by Arizona State last week but in the end it was their defense that made the difference. Cal gave Oregon all they had last week, but in this rivalry game, it's been far too long since the Cardinal won in Strawberry Cannon--should be a great game.
Next: @ California 3:30

5. Wisconsin
-Coming off 83 points against Indiana they turn their attention to a defense not too much better in Michigan. I expect the Wolverines to hang around for a half, but in the latter stages Wisconsin will wear them down. The Badgers are two ways from a BCS bowl game, and likely their first Rose Bowl since Ron Dayne was there.
Next: @ Michigan Noon ESPN

6. Boise State
-Boise made some serious head way in the BCS because of Utah looking bad against Notre Dame (one of TCU's best wins). If they win out, and impressively, they may do enough to climb over TCU. If Bama can knock off Auburn, who do you take to play Oregon? A 1-loss Auburn, or undefeated Boise State, or TCU?
Next: vs. Fresno State 9:30 PM ESPN2

7. LSU
-The Bayou Bengals didn't have much problem with the warhawks last week but this week could be different. LSU tends to play down to their opponents and Ole Miss is better than what they have shown so far. Tread very carefully, Les.
Next:  vs. Ole Miss 3:30 CBS

8. Ohio State
-The Buckeyes still have a possible BCS game to play for. Iowa is most likely relegated to a second-tier Outback or Capital One Bowl. But there is nothing the Hawkeyes would like to do more than knock off the Buckeyes. They have had this game circled since they just missed winning at the horseshoe last year.
Next: @ Iowa 3:30 ABC

9. Oklahoma State
-Is Texas really that bad? The Cowboys went intto Austin and dismantled the 'Horns. This week we will see if the Cowboys momentum comes out in Kansas or if they will sleepwalk through a 11:00 AM local kickoff time. One thing is for sure, that Justin Blackmon can play anywhere.
Next: @ Kansas

10. Nebraska
-Kyle Field in College Station is one of the best places to watch a college game and Freshman QB Taylor Martinez will get his first taste of it. If he deals with it as well as he did at Washington, the Huskers will clinch a berth in the Big 12 Title game for the second straight season.

Stare, Squint, Nod 1 (Round 1)

This is the first of what will be a few mock drafts over the course of the season. For now, we will keep it at one round, but as we do more and more versions we'll get into a second round as well. Enjoy.

1. Buffalo- Andrew Luck QB Stanford 6'4 235
-Bills need a franchise QB, he has completely overtaken Locker/Mallett. His experience in a pro offense at Stanford as well as his escapability should energize the Bills organization.

2. Carolina- A.J. Green WR Georgia 6'4 207
-What a better way to help your young QB (Clausen) then with the next stud WR. Green is maybe the best talent in this draft, and the Panthers--well they don't have much of that.

3. Dallas- Adrian Clayborn DE Iowa 6'4 285
-'Boys would most need an OT, so they would probably trade down. But Clayborn is probably the top overall defensive end in the draft, he can get after the passer, he stops the run, and he never stops.

4. Detroit- Patrick Peterson CB LSU 6'2 211
-Young QB/RB/WR combo? Check. Defensive line? Check. How about a shutdown corner? Peterson could be a pro-bowler from day one in the NFL. He's like Antonio Cromartie except smarter between the ears.

5. Denver- Marcell Dareus DE/DT Alabama 6'3 309
-If McDaniels is still there, count on this getting screwed up. The Broncos haven't stopped the run since I was in 3rd grade (that's like 14 years ago), therefore getting someone who can clog the running game is needed.

6. San Francisco- Da'Quan Bowers DE Clemson 6'4 275
-Niners could go Quarterback, but they take Bowers who will be a beast getting after the passer. With a new coach likely coming in, Bowers can play 4-3 end or 3-4 OLB with his athletic ability making him a scary weapon on defense.

7. Cincinnati- Prince Amukamara CB Nebraska 6'1 205
-In most years, Amukamara would go top 5. Bengals cornerback play was solid last season, this year Leon Hall and Jonathan Joseph have not gotten the job done.

8. Arizona- Ryan Mallett QB Arkansas 6'7 238
-Derek Anderson and Max Hall not doin' it for ya? Okay, here's the best arm in the NFL from day one. He may be more Jay Cutler than Sam Bradford, but there is absolutely no throw he cannot make.

9. Cleveland- Drake Nevis DT LSU 6'2 285
-Late bloomer has the skills to play the nose or end in a 3-4. Very versatile. He's a guy that you cannot block with one man (watch his Alabama tape), Nevis will be an NFL stud.

10. Minnesota- Stephen Paea DT Oregon State 6'1 311
-Pat Williams is on his death bed, Paea would compliment K-Will well with his pass rushing skills from the tackle spot. Paea could add a little bit more weight and become even more of a monster.

11. Washington- Julio Jones WR Alabama 6'4 220
-Shanahan does love his Quarterbacks, but right now he doesn't have anyone that can catch the ball. Jones hasn't been as productive as Green, but in the right offense Jones could be a top WR in the NFL.

12. Jacksonville- Jake Locker QB Washington 6'3 230
-Locker has bust written all over him. But the Jags could mold him and wait a year or two. There's no doubting his physical ability (which makes him hard to pass on), but there's just something off.

13. St. Louis- Nate Solder OT Colorado 6'9 315
-Bradford has surpassed expectations, now they just have to build around him. Solder can step in on day one and protect the Franchise's backside for years to come.

14. New England (from Oakland)-Allen Bailey DE/DT Miami (FL) 6'4 290
-Pats defensive line is in desperate need of youth. Versatile Bailey will test out as good as any linemen in the draft, but hasn't quite had the production to match. Belichick will get the most out of him.

15. Houston- DeAndre McDaniel S Clemson 6'1 215

-Here's a gift for the NFL's worst passing defense--a ball-hawking safety. McDaniel will immediately start at safety. He's having a down year so far, but you try intercepting passes with a broken hand.

16. Tampa Bay- DeAndre Brown WR Southern Miss 6'5 230
-Out of the box pick, amazing athletic and leaping ability could become a star. When he wants to play, he's scary good, but he seems to have some character and work ethic issues making him a risk.

17. Miami- DeMarco Murray RB Oklahoma 6'1 207
-Ricky is old, Ronnie always gets hurt, Murray is an all-purpose back who can also return kicks. Murray never quite lived up to his "Reggie Bush" hype, but he will probably be a better NFL player than Bush.

18. San Diego- Robert Quinn DE/OLB North Carolina 6'5 268
-Merriman is gone and the Bolts could use a good rush end to "charge" up their defense. Quinn sat out all year for agent issues with the NCAA, but make no mistake he's a big time talent.

19. Chicago- Brandon Harris CB Miami (FL) 5'11 195
-Bears defense could use an upgrade in the secondary and O-line. Best player at this time is Harris. He has consistently improved at Miami and has been a starter since frosh year.

20. Tennessee- Marvin Austin DT North Carolina 6'3 310
-Taking a kid with some issues and getting the talent out of him? Taylor-made for Fisher. Austin was another highly touted Tar Heel that had agent contact problems, but he will test very well as long as he's in shape.

21. Seattle- Cameron Newton QB Auburn 6'6 250
-Vince Young went in top 5. Tebow in 1st round. Newton is a better physical specimen than both and miles ahead of Tebow as a passer. If it doesn't work out he's already shown the ability to catch the ball...

22. Kansas City- Stefan Wisniewski C/OG Penn State 6'3 306
-A young team getting better and better gets a future pro-bowler at center to improve a line that's doing a nice job opening up holes.

23. New Orleans- Marcus Cannon OG TCU 6'6 350
-Saints don't have many holes, but the versatile Cannon should be a fixture at RG going forward.

24. Philadelphia- Gabe Carimi OT Wisconsin 6'7 327
-Carimi is a stud run blocking but does need a little growth in pass protection. Good thing Vick would be his QB.

25. Indianapolis- Derrick Sherod OT Mississippi State 6'6 305
-Athletic Sherod will either be boom or bust, he has all the ability in the world but can he put it together?

26. Green Bay- Cameron Jordan DE/DT California 6'4 283
-Another jack of all trades, could play nose in some siutations but looks like a natural as a 3-4 end, which the Packers need badly.

27. Baltimore- Bruce Carter OLB North Carolina 6'3 235
-As usual, the Ravens will take the best player available. Carter has amazing speed for his position and should help fill some of the holes Ray-Ray is too slow to get too.

28. NY Jets- Jeremy Beal DE/OLB Oklahoma 6'3 267
-The Jets are actually (gulp) having trouble getting to the passer this year. Beal is a pure pass rusher who I would compare to a more physically gifted Elvis Dumervil.

29. New England- Mark Ingram RB Alabama 5'10 215
-The Pats are becoming more like their teams that won super bowls. Ingram would give them a running back that isn't flashy but has been well taught from a pro system and could step in and start from day one.

30. Atlanta- Jared Crick DE/DT Nebraska 6'6 285
-Another young team coming of age. The offense is solid as can be, but the defense is a little thing on the line. Crick is a versatile talent that can play inside or out.

31. NY Giants- Kyle Rudolph TE Notre Dame 6'6 260
-Giants are my pick to go to the SB out of the NFC this year. Kevin Boss is a good target, but Rudolph is the type that can stretch the field and he could be a great fit in their offense.

32. Pittsburgh- Anthony Castanzo OT Boston College 6'7 295
-Keeping Big Ben upright isn't easy with how much he moves around. But this year's line is struggling big time. Steelers are the odds on favorites for the Super Bowl, but the offensive line may derail those hopes.

Stare, Squint, Nod 1 (Round 2)

Here's round two...(without comments)

33. Buffalo-Nick Fairley DT Auburn

34. New England (from Carolina)- Rodney Hudson OG Florida State

35. Dallas- Deunta Williams S North Carolina

36. Detroit- Greg Jones LB Michigan State

37. Denver-Cameron Heyward DE Ohio State

38. San Francisco- Pat Devlin QB Delaware

39. Cincinnati- Greg Romeus DE Pittsburgh

40. Arizona- Rashad Carmichael CB Virginia Tech

41. Cleveland- Leonard Hankerson WR Miami (FL)

42. Minnesota-Ahmad Black S Florida

43. Washington- Daniel Thomas RB Kansas State

44. Jacksonville- Quan Sturdivant LB North Carolina

45. St. Louis- Titus Young WR Boise State

46. Oakland- DeMarcus Love OT Arkansas

47. Houston- Von Miller LB Texas A&M

48. Tampa Bay- Rahim Moore S UCLA

49. Denver (from Miami)- Roy Helu Jr. RB Nebraska

50. San Diego- Desmond Trufant CB Washington

51. Chicago- Mike Pouncey C/OG Florida

52. Tennessee- Mark Barron S Alabama

53. Seattle-Kendall Hunter RB Oklahoma State

54. Kansas City- Jerrell Powe DT Ole Miss

55. New Orleans- Ryan Broyles WR Oklahoma

56. Philadelphia- Aaron Williams CB Texas

57. Indianapolis-Nate Irving LB NC State

58. Green Bay- John Clay RB Wisconsin

59. Baltimore- Ryan Kerrigan DE/OLB Purdue

60. San Diego (from NY Jets)- Andrew Datko OT Florida State

61. New England- Akeem Ayers OLB UCLA

62. Atlanta- Kristofer O'Dowd C Southern Cal

63. NY Giants- Tank Carder LB TCU

64. Pittsburgh- Stephon Gilmore CB South Carolina

Jets 26 @ 19 Lions    ...Interesting game--I don't think the Lions can slow down the Jets running however.

Cardinals 17 @ 27 Vikings  ...Vikings are a mess. But would you really pick Derek Anderson to win?
