Week in Review

Week one in the history of the Double Play Sports Blog is complete. I'll give ya some quick hitter thoughts on the week...

  • I am a very passive hockey fan. However, after this Saturday's Bruins game, I may have to re-evaluate that decision. What a game! Dare I say, Go Bruins?
  • As of Sunday, Kelly Johnson and his 54 career HRs had as many big flies (9) as the Seattle Mariners and Houston Astros entire team. And Paul Konerko (12 HRs) has more than both of them. Raise your hand if you had that at start of the year.
  • Those who are calling for Stephen Strasburg to be called up the majors immediately need to slow down just a bit. He's only one year removed from college and if you don't build up his innings gradually he could end up like this guy or this guy.
  • There is speculation (from the Mayans) that the world will end in 2012. Well, if this is the case I think I figured out the cause; KFC. Yes, that's a sandwich where the chicken is the bun. Damn, Colonel Sanders.
  • Tip of the cap to Oklahoma City Thunder fans. Not only were they awesome for all three games in OKC but when the Lakers eliminated their Thunder Friday night, they gave their hometeam a standing ovation for the effort they had put out. Great fans.
  • The NBA playoffs have been kind of a dud so far. As much as I am more of an NBA fan than NHL, the Stanley Cup Playoffs thus far have been more exciting.
  • NCAA Tourney expansion is happening. The tourney will jump to 68 teams, now having four play-in games. I have an idea. How about instead of putting teams like Morehead State and Austin Peay play each other to get waxed by a 1 seed in the first round, lets have two power conference at-larges play for it. You can insert the 4 winners of the games as 12 or 13 seeds and no one would know the difference, rating would be better. The play-in games would be a heck of a lot more exciting as well.
